Friday – with some spoilers

(Tomorrow is Saturday – boom boom!)

With the next season of Battlestar Galactica not due to hit our screens until October, my Friday’s are definitely less exciting.  I usually pass the day with a BSG count down, informing all  who cross my path the number of hours and minutes until curtain call. Even when the episode was over there was still Big Ron’s podcast to look forward to. The season finale was awesome, and they really have shaken things up for season three. The biggest being that Roslin looses the election to Baltar, he decides to colonise the hospitable planet and then they fast forward a year. It is such an awesome execution of a major plot change that I just get giddy just thinking about it.

It has been a bit of a funny week with Alex working late. Last night I decided I hadn’t seen enough of him so I crashed his office (after a drinks party at my own office…so I was a little tipsy), I promptly ate their food and then fell asleep. I think I am a bit of an IT groupie or hanger on; developers are the new rock stars and don’t let anyone tell you different!

wonky

I am under the misconception that I have the ability to trim my bangs myself. Some kind of memory loss occurs between each dalliance with the scissors. This evening finds me once again trying to even things out as my bangs creep up my forehead.

double edged sword

My head hurts.

The provisional (that word still makes me think of the IRA) exam timetable for college has been released. I had been given the impression that the exams would take place in the first two weeks of May, instead I have three exams spread over the whole of May (2nd, 11th and 22nd). Ten days between each exam. On the one hand this is good, plenty of time to revise and cram, but on the other I will have to make three trips to London. Hmmmm.

With a little jiggery-pokery I can plan my trips so that I only need to take six vacation days from work, and I will have three weekends to spend with family and friends. But, I will still be spending too much time contorted in economy. I am sure my mum will worry about DVT and will be sprinkling ground aspirin on all my meals.

inspired by Homeric Hymns

Of receptionist and assistant, daughter of Zeus, I sing,

Who greets all guests, corporeal and non,

In her kingdom of meetings rooms and lobby,

Apathetic, she was spawned through over education,

Fed diet rich of words and art,

This daughter of Zeus, daughter of daughters yearns to be free,

To trade a desk of papers for a higher seat,

Till then, this nymph must patient be,

And haunt the bureaucratic halls in jeans and tee,

Farewell to you daughter of high jinx, lost calls and expense reports.

quantify

I had to fill out a self-assessment form. I just couldn’t understand it, or perhaps I didn’t want to understand it and justify my week day existence in such a manner. Why can’t I submit a book review or do a power point presentation on the decline of Sparta in the 4th century?

7:15am yoga class, sugar-free berry scone and a decaf coffee – shouldn’t I be living on west coast?

iconic

Last week the girlfriend of one of Alex’s colleagues gave us a box of Girl Scout cookies and I don’t think she was prepared for my over excited reaction. You’d think I had never seen over-priced packaged baked goods before. We (Johnny foreigner) don’t have Girl Scout cookies, they are something we only learn about second hand in pop culture. She very kindly ordered some more for us and today we took delivery of Lemon Drops and All Abouts (shortbread with inspiring ideals on them). I intend to share the love and post a box off to the Giver of Life. They might not make it in time for Mother’s Day, but luckily I already got her the Battlestar Galactica mini-series. Who needs flowers, when you can give Cylons!

complaint (again)

An odd weekend (only two cups of coffee for one thing), and I was out of sorts and achy. I had to contend with a four day (weds – sat) caffeine reduction induced headache and on Sunday headache is replaced by lower body muscle ache. What the frack is going on? I know I turn 30 this year, but is my warranty up? Several reason for lower body ache or AW (“aaarrrrggghhhhhwwwaaaaaa” ): lack of yoga, too much walking to work or legs want to walk to starbucks and are being blocked by my iron will. The other option is that my body is reacting not to a lack of caffeine but to excessive vitamins. It doesn’t know what to do with a full quota of vitamin C let alone B12 or Pantothenic Acid or Riboflavin.

(Thanks to Stephen for the hint about chewable vitamins, I have found an adult chewable multi…..not quite as exciting as Scooby Doo or Spiderman shaped vits but will do the job!)
